Finding Beauty in the Chaos: Camilo Arias' Journey from War to Vibrant Art

Updated: May 6, 2023

As an artist, my philosophy behind my work is deeply rooted in my experiences with war and conflict. I have seen the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. That's why my Art is so focused on the themes of nature, life, and energy. I want my Art to remind people of the beauty of the natural world and the fleetingness of our existence.

My use of vibrant, saturated colors is a deliberate choice to convey the energy and vitality of nature. The colors I use are full of life and exuberance, much like the world around us. They also represent the fleetingness of the existence, as if the colors are bursting forth before fading away.

But my Art is not just about the beauty of life. It's also about the darkness and the pain that can accompany it. The themes of life and death are not just about the physical world, but also about the emotions and experiences that we go through. My Art is a reflection of the struggle and hardship that I have faced, not only because of the war but also because of the abandonment of my parents and while these experiences have been painful, they've also taught me valuable lessons about life, death, and the human condition.

When you decide not to let violence determine the role you must take, you stop being a victim and become a survivor. I chose not to let violence and mistreatment condition me and decide for me. Instead, I took control of my life and focused on my passion for art. Through my art, I strive to communicate my experiences and observations of the world, while also inviting others to reflect and engage in meaningful conversations.

I want to share all of these difficult stories in this blog as a way to share what I have learned from that suffering and as a form of healing. I hope that my words and art can inspire others to find their own path towards healing and overcoming the challenges they may face.

These notions and skills that I have developed over the years have been acquired through the harshest of experiences with war. I have seen the worst that humanity has to offer, but I have also seen the strength and resilience that can come from those experiences. It's my hope that my Art can convey those lessons to others and inspire them to find beauty and meaning in even the darkest of times.
